City commences with road resurfacing of Faure Marine Drive, Gordons Bay

03 March 2023

The City’s Urban Mobility Directorate will start with the resurfacing of Faure Marine Drive in Gordons Bay on Sunday evening, 5 March 2023. Approximately 1km of road will be resurfaced with this project. Work will start at the BP garage at the Beach Road intersection and end at Lemoenboom Road and is set to continue up until 19 March 2023, weather dependant

The work is planned to take place at night from Sunday to Friday from 19:00 to 05:30 to avoid impact on traffic congestion.

The resurfacing of the westbound carriageway of Faure Marine Drive between Beach Road and Lemoenboom Road forms part of the regular maintenance of City of Cape Town's road network.

'Residents from the surrounding areas can expect a level of noise while work on Faure Marine Drive is under way, however we believe that the night work will ensure that this project has the least impact on traffic congestion in the area and that the project is completed as soon as possible. Residents can look forward to a fresh looking and well maintained road, free of any defects once the resurfacing is complete,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

The City will ensure that flag personnel direct traffic around the work area.

The City's Road Infrastructure Management Department will be milling out the existing road surfacing and replacing it with a new asphalt road surface. Road markings will be repainted once the road surface has been installed. This work forms part of regular maintenance to prolong the longevity of the city's road network.
